Course Description
This course provides students with an overview of the different types of diagnostic and assessment tools used in addictions counseling. This course includes a comprehensive examination of psychometric properties used to develop and evaluate these instruments. Students will understand the various models and approaches to clinical evaluations for addictive disorders and will understand the appropriate use of assessments for addictions. In addition, students will understand how to assess for a biopsychosocial and spiritual history. The course also addresses ethical, legal, and sociocultural issues including cultural bias and fairness. Professional standards for testing provide a foundation for the course.Applications for each non-degree, credit-bearing, course are reviewed by Walden University’s Admissions Office.
