In this webinar, we will examine (1) the main terminology and modern assessment methods of epidemics (e.g., genomic sequencing and reproduction number of a pathogen, testing, tracing), (2) the main strategies to address infectious diseases (i.e., mitigation, elimination), and (3) the best practices and measures of national and international reactions to address an emerging disease, including short- and long-term measures to reduce contacts and prevent hospital saturation, active surveillance, quick development of effective vaccines and treatments that should be produced and distributed equally and globally, etc. The ultimate goal of these public health actions should and could be to save as many lives as possible and to return to pre-epidemic life.
