Course Description
Students have the opportunity, in this course, to think critically about society and their own lives from a wide range of classical and contemporary perspectives. Students engage in assignments that balance theory with current research findings and emphasize social policy. They explore and apply major theoretical perspectives to evaluate chosen topics, analyze culture and society through the exploration of holidays and celebrations, consider the idea of self in relation to global perspectives, and compare and contrast social institutions. Through their study of sociology, students sharpen their critical-thinking skills and develop a sociological imagination, which they can use throughout their personal and professional lives to understand social structure and behavior.Applications for each non-degree, credit-bearing, course are reviewed by Walden University’s Admissions Office. Therefore, only a single credit-bearing Walden course can be purchased at a time until an admission decision is rendered (usually within 2 business days).
