Description

Rarely do clients present with just one substance use or addictive behavior disorder. Clients often present with 2 or 3 substances misused, one or more addictive behaviors, and one or two mental health concerns. This micro-course looks at the need for a differential assessment, where the actual disorders are separate from the symptoms. The case will be made for integrated treatment, where all the disorders are treated concurrently, to create the best possible outcome.

Learners will define co-occurring disorders and give a rationale for why treatments must be individualized, specific, timely, and holistic in order to be effective.
